Seven Eleven - Japan - Promotional Cards - 2002

While American companies did very few promotions for Attack of the Clones, some parts of the world were more fortunate. Japan in particular had a number of promotions, including a trading card promotion through their Seven Eleven stores.

Packets of cards (containing only two cards) were given away with purchase. Collectors could complete a set of 16 cards (cards were not numbered). They could also win various prizes. Three 'bonus' cards existed. Each of these cards won a prize and so are slightly more difficult to locate. In addition, 'instant win' cards existed, with a normal card front but an instant prize described on the back.

In connection with the card promotion, 30 sets of special phone cards were issued as prizes to lucky collectors. Each of these 30 sets consisted of 16 cards that mirrored the regular cards in the packs. These cards however were phone cards with a value of 10,000 Yen. This made each card worth roughly $100 US dollars. Because they were issued as complete sets, this was a significant prize to win.

Other prizes for the contest were lesser valued phone cards and an R2-D2 cooler. Instant win prizes tended to be food items from Seven Eleven stores. There were 50 different instant win prizes offered.

I have listed below the standard and bonus card set, the wrapper and ad sheets as well as the prize phone cards. My thanks to Jeffrey Strain for his assistance with this page.

Because cards were not numbered, they are presented in no particular order. Each card featured two character images, one on the front and one on the back. These images were generally complimentary. For instance R2-D2 and C-3P0 are shown on one card. Other images appear to represent opponents. All images are posed character shots. A few images are from Episode One or the classic films.
