Bootleg - Hungary - E1: Trading Cards (Series 2) - 1999

Following the release of the original films, Hungarian collectors were able to buy bootleg trading cards that were made using images from magazines and other sources. The same is now true for Hungarian collectors interested in Episode One trading cards. More than one set of cards were produced and sold to collectors.

The newer bootleg card sets are of a much higher quality than the original bootlegs, but the cards are still somewhat cheaply made. Printed on a glossy stock, this 20 card set hs no checklist and no wrappers. Sets were sold wrapped in clear plastic bags. The card stock is thin, but of decent quality. Each card features a card back with stars, the Star Wars logo text in a 'stone' style font and the words 'collection card' underneath. Cards are not numbered.

The front of the cards contain the same Star Wars logo text in a much smaller size, and this time the grey stone text is surrounded by a yellow glow. Each card also has Star Wars writing down one side of the card. Which is to say, text that is written in the alphabet as seen briefly in some Star Wars scenes. There are no character names or other text descriptions on any of the cards.

What is perhaps most interesting about these cards is the unusual images selected. While some are clearly images from other card and sticker sets that have been 'borrowed' to make this set, other images are unfamiliar to me. Perhaps these are photos from the set released by Lucasfilm on their web site and I just missed them. The selection at least is interesting, and for a bootleg set, the quality of the cards is fairly good.

Thanks as always to Szabi for help with this information.
