Bluebird Chips - New Zealand - Promotional Cards - 1999

Bluebird is a potato chip company in New Zealand. I am not aware if they are associated with Lays, but would assume that they are in some fashion. Bluebird issued a set of 30 trading cards packaged in special multi-packs of chips for Episode One. You need to purchase either 12 or 18 bag packages in order to receive the cards. (2 cards in the 12 pack, 3 in the 18 pack). With 30 cards in the set, this became an expensive set to complete.

Each card features a character from Episode One on the front, and a glow-in-the-dark picture on the back of the cards. The cards are high quality, and are the size of a normal trading card.

Special thanks to James Howell and Andrew Leederfor the information on this page.

In addition to the standard-sized card set, Bluebird also issued a number of related card sets, in varying sizes, and with a varying number of cards in each set. These smaller sets are harder to locate for the average collector. Different sized cards are available in different sizes of chips, making it necessary to purchase a large number of chips to complete all of the sets. There are a total of 5 different sets to collect.

A medium sized card set (2 1/2" by 1 3/4") contains 18 cards numbered 1 through 18. The cards have a reddish border while the card backs combine to form poster images. A second identical parallel set is also available with a silver border instead of red.

The numbering from this card set is continued in a second 18 card set numbered 19 to 36. These adorable cards are approximately 1 1/2" by 1" in size. Again the set comes in both a red bordered set, and a parallel silver bordered set. The backs of these cards also form poster images.

These cards are printed by the same card company which produced the Australian exclusive iKon card set.

For collectors looking for an interesting group of cards to collect, and interested in a challenge, this set is an ideal set to attempt to complete.
