Lays - China - Star Wars Tazos - 1997
Star Wars Tazos were issued in a number of countries during the Special
Editions. All Star Wars Tazos were distributed by a company affiliated
with Lays. These tazos took a number of different forms, and it is rare
for a set from one country to be identical to a set from another
country. If you are unfamiliar with Tazos, you can think of them as
being similar to pogs. Tazos are currently very popular in many
countries outside of the U.S.
I know very little about the Chinese Star Wars Tazo set, but
what information I have, I will indicate here. Much of this information
was generously provided by Mike Kosowski. If you have additional
information, or have any of these available for sale or trade, please
contact me.
The checklist below is based on the Tazo album. The tazos are
similar to the UK tazos, in that they are round in shape with small
notches. Each tazo has one notch that is larger than the rest. A small
number of the tazos are hologram tazos, but unlike the Australian
hologram tazos, these are in full color.
The Chinese SW Tazo album is similar in appearance to the
Australian album, but is much smaller in size. It is about the size of
the UK Tazo album (approximately 8 1/2 inches tall, by 7 3/4 inches
wide). The album contains four white pages with pictures of the Tazo
images on them (very similar to the Australian album), and four plastic
Tazo holder sheets. Each sheet can hold 10 Tazos for a set of 40. Each
page also has a wider picture and text at the bottom of the page, and
in front of this, there is a double sized pocket. I do not know if this
pocket was intended to hold an item or not. Text on the back of each
tazo is naturally in Chinese.
I cannot scan the internal pages of the album without damaging
it (they are not removable). For this reason I will only provide a scan
of the outside of the album as soon as I am able. I will also be
providing scans of the few tazos I have in the near future. In the
meantime, I have provided a sample scan of the back of tazo one.
I would like to thank Inkferno for confirming that these tazos and
their album come from Hong Kong. And for helping translate some of the
album text. Additional information will be posted with the scans. I
would also like to thank Mike Kosowski for providing much of the other
information posted on this page.
I have only a small number of these to trade, and would prefer to trade for ones I am missing.
